Valerie Mizrahi is the director of the Institute of Infectious Disease and Molecular Medicine at UCT. She also directs the Molecular Mycobacteriology Research Unit and is the founding co-director of the DSI/NRF CoE for Biomedical TB Research. Her research focuses on studying aspects of the mycobacterial metabolism and physiology of relevance to TB drug discovery and drug resistance. She has trained many postgraduate students, postdocs and early-career researchers during her career at Wits and UCT. Most of her trainees have remained involved in biomedical research locally and abroad. She was recently re-awarded an A1 rating from the NRF.
