Ms Akhona Tshangela
Akhona Tshangela, Southern Africa Director for WomenLift Health, is a pivotal leader in advancing women in health and decision-making. A founding member of the Africa CDC, she led continental vaccine manufacturing initiatives and co-chaired the science group guiding Africa's COVID-19 response. With almost two decades of national and continental health sector experience, she champions the critical belief that to have resilient health systems, countries must tap into the majority female health workforce for transformative leadership, especially to improve women's health outcomes and economic growth.
Dr Duduzile Ndwandwe
Dr Duduzile Ndwandwe is a respected public health scientist and researcher. She specialises in vaccine research, clinical trials, and pandemic preparedness. With her diverse academic background in vaccinology, molecular biology, microbial genetics, and management, she tackles complex health issues through scientific knowledge and leadership.
Her research has influenced health policies at national, regional, and global levels, and she has over 100 publications in top peer-reviewed journals. She also participates in scientific and advisory committees focused on ethical research, pandemic response, and strengthening health systems.
In addition, she serves as Guest Editor for the PAMJ EPI@50 special issue and is on the editorial boards of PLOS ONE. As a dedicated mentor, she supervises postgraduate students and helps early-career scientists in global health research.
