Professor Marc Blockman is a leading medical specialist and Professor of Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Cape Town and Groote Schuur Hospital. He is widely recognised for his expertise in drug policy, rational prescribing, and human research ethics. At UCT, he serves in the Department of Internal Medicine and as a consultant in the Division of Clinical Pharmacology. Nationally, he holds key regulatory roles with the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority, where he chairs both the Clinical Committee and the Pharmacovigilance Expert Committee, and contributes to the National Essential Medicines List Committee. His research focuses on optimising medicine use, monitoring adverse drug reactions, strengthening pharmacovigilance systems, and advancing ethical standards in clinical research.
