Dr. Kalizang’oma is a clinician and medical microbiologist who recently completed his PhD in Pathogen Genomics at University College London (UCL). He is a postdoc in the Pneumonia and Meningitis Pathogens Associate Research Group at the Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Program (MLW) in Malawi, where he is leading a cluster-randomised evaluation of a pneumococcal vaccination schedule change. His main research interest is the emergence of pneumococcal antimicrobial resistance and how it is influenced by horizontal genetic transfer with Streptococcus mitis, and selective pressure from vaccines and antibiotics.
