HIV Research at IDM

Our work focuses on innovative approaches to improve prevention, treatment, long-term management and its associated infections. Below are the key areas of HIV research at IDM:

Prevention, Treatment & Management of HIV & HIV-Associated Infections

Understanding the complexities of HIV infection and its impact on the immune system is crucial for effective disease control. The Institue's research includes:

  • Developing new strategies for HIV prevention, including pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).

  • Advancing antiretroviral therapy (ART) for improved efficacy, reduced side effects, and enhanced adherence.

  • Investigating HIV-associated infections such as tuberculosis, opportunistic fungal and bacterial infections, and their management in immunocompromised patients.

Vaccine Development

An effective HIV vaccine remains a global priority. Our scientists are engaged in:

  • Exploring novel vaccine candidates and delivery systems.

  • Conducting clinical trials to assess vaccine safety and efficacy.

  • Studying immune responses to HIV to guide vaccine improvements.

Viral Evolution

HIV is a rapidly evolving virus, which poses challenges for treatment and vaccine development. Our research focusses on:

  • Monitoring HIV genetic mutations and their impact on drug resistance.

  • Understanding viral adaptation to immune system pressures.
