Speaker
Dr Celeste de Vaal is currently the course convenor for the undergraduate Forensic Medicine course at UCT. Her journey with forensic medicine made her ask critical questions around ethical issues in forensic pathology. This inspired her philosophy thesis on “Raising Ethical Issues in the Dead”. She is passionate about adult learning and specifically in the health sciences.
This seminar will touch on ethical issues in pathology in general. Ethical issues around hegemony in pathology and “unethical” legislation will be touched on; as these are important acknowledgements for transformation to occur. As it is woman’s month tribute will also be paid to remarkable woman, such as Henrietta Lacks, and ethical issues around the HeLa immortal cell line, ensuring her and others’ legacy still lives on.
