Wolfson Pavilion Lecture Theatre, IDM Building
Speaker: Dr Naadir M. Ganief
Naadir’s research career has largely focused on using mass spectrometry based proteomics to understand various aspects of infectious diseases and the models used to interrogate them. He began his academic journey with an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at Stellenbosch University, followed by an honors degree in radiation biology at the University of Cape Town (UCT) Medical School. Naadir then joined the Blackburn lab at UCT, where he embarked on a master's project focused on intracellular stress in mycobacteria, with a particular emphasis on proteomics. His master's research was later upgraded to a PhD, during which he gained hands-on experience with mass spectrometry and bioinformatics.During his PhD, Naadir participated in the prestigious Novartis Next-Generation Scientist Program, where he focused on developing mass spectrometry based lipidomics methodology for Novatis. Currently, as a postdoctoral researcher in the NCCR Anti-Resist program, Naadir's work centers on the development and benchmarking of models to recapitulate the in-vivo physiology of E. coli during urinary tract infections (UTIs). |
