Celebrating Heritage Through Story, Music and Culture

Sign-up to Make Music with Pedro

Join us this September as we celebrate Heritage Month with a special Coffee Club hosted by the IDM Transformation Working Group.

This interactive session will feature a mobile exhibition from Iziko Museums of South Africa, one of the country's premier cultural institutions, which uses exhibitions and storytelling to connect people with South Africa's rich natural, social and artistic heritage. Iziko's name comes from the isiXhosa word for "hearth" - a place of warmth, gathering, storytelling and shared knowledge

Complementing the exhibition, Pedro the Music Man will lead a lively musical and cultural exchange designed to bring people together through participatory storytelling and collaborative music-making. Using his unique "One Person One Note" instruments crafted from dried kelp, alongside colour-coded musical pipes, attendees will work together to create harmonies and perform beloved South African classics such as Mbube and Meadowlands. Pedro's approach focuses on fostering connection, community and shared cultural experiences through active participation.

Come celebrate Heritage Month with colleagues, explore South Africa's rich stories and traditions, and experience the power of music, culture and community in an engaging and memorable way.

All are welcome. Bring your curiosity, your voice, and your Heritage Day spirit!
