Speaker: Nelisa Makeleni

Nelisa Makeleni is a PhD candidate in the Division of Immunology at the University of Cape Town. She completed her MSc in Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, focusing on protein structure and function. 

Before starting her PhD, she worked as a Research and Development Scientist at Skin Rejuvenation Technologies (SRT) in Centurion, Pretoria, where she focused on developing skincare formulations. She now applies her scientific training to help develop a vaccine against Group B Streptococcus, contributing to research that aims to protect mothers and their infants from bacterial infections.
