Dr Ruby Bunjun (PhD) is a Research Officer in the Division of Medical Virology, currently funded by a UK MRC African Research Leader’s Fellowship. Her current research broadly focuses on understanding aspects of immunity needed to develop interventions for vulnerable populations in Africa, with a focus on HIV. She obtained her PhD from UCT in 2016, investigating T cell immunity in TB-HIV co-infection. During her postdoc, she examined treatable factors of HIV risk in young women, including hormonal contraception and immunity to sexually transmitted infections. She is passionate about science communication and an advocate for better mental health in academia.
