IDM CPD-Accredited Seminar: Targeting de novo purine biosynthesis for the treatment of tuberculosis

Dirk recently joined H3D as Chief Investigator, leading the TB/AMR Biology platform teams. He is a tuberculosis scientist with 17+ years’ experience in assay development, compound screening and MOA studies, in vitro/in vivo models and coordinating small molecule drug discovery programs. His research interests’ centres around how M. tuberculosis bioenergetic and metabolic pathways can be exploited for drug discovery.

Dirk graduated from Stellenbosch University, under the guidance of Erick Strauss and Anwar Jardine. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship with Adrie Steyn at the Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI, previously K-RITH) before joining Janssen Pharmaceutica (now J&J Innovative Medicine) where he led the TB small molecule discovery efforts, working closely with Alex Pym and Anil Koul.
