Wellcome Trust Seed Fund Award for Neuroscience

Congratulations to Dr. Joseph Raimondo and his team for receiving the Wellcome Trust Seed Award. Seed Awards help researchers develop novel ideas that will go on to form part of larger grant applications to Wellcome or elsewhere.
This Seed Award is s a collaboration with neurosurgeons at Red Cross Children's hospital. The study will use human brain slice cultures to study how neuroinflammation affects ion concentrations within different brain cell types, and how this affects the excitability of brain circuits.
Jo Raimondo is a neuroscientist who investigates brain function and dysfunction using electrophysiological, optical imaging and computational approaches. His career ambition is to produce outstanding research of both local and global relevance, whilst developing African capacity in cellular neurophysiology and computational neuroscience.
The Raimondo Lab is a cellular neuroscience research laboratory situated within the Department of Human Biology, at the University of Cape Town.
