Val Mizrahi
The prestigious journal Cell published a commentary by Professor Valerie Mizrahi, IDM Director, under the editorial Leading Edge Voices (Cell 169, May 2017). The topic was Big Questions in Microbiology, and she commented on the topic of “Putting a stop to persisters”.

She begins the commentary by saying ”The spread of drug-resistant microbes and spectre of a “post-antibiotic” world have made the fight against antimicrobial resistance (AMR) one of the most important scientific challenges of our time. The threat of AMR has raised critical questions that are profoundly influencing the research agenda in all spheres of microbiology. For instance, the development of new intervention strategies against AMR demands a deeper understanding of host-pathogen relationships and how they evolve during the course of transmission, infection, and disease, as well as insight into the interplay between and among pathogens and other microbes within their host and environmental ecosystems.”
