Education Working Group

The IDM Education Committee is dedicated to strengthening academic and professional growth across the Institute by providing enhanced learning opportunities for all members of the IDM community — including staff, students and fellows. The committee supports an inclusive, high-impact learning culture that aligns with IDM’s commitment to Excellence, Collaboration, and Transformation.
Chaired by Virginie Rozot with Tariq Ganief as Co-Chair, the committee delivers a range of initiatives designed to upskill and inspire the IDM community:
-
IDM CPD-Accredited Seminars: These weekly seminars are accredited for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and form a core part of IDM’s ongoing learning environment. They feature leading voices from within and beyond the IDM, covering emerging research, methodologies, and scientific developments. Join us for the IDM CPD-Accredited Seminar, every Wednesday at 13h00 in the Wolfson Pavillion Lecture Theatre.
-
Masterclasses: These sessions bring together world-class scientists, thought leaders, and emerging talent from across Africa and around the globe. Masterclasses offer deep dives into specialised topics and foster dynamic exchange between international experts and local researchers.
-
Capacity-Building Workshops: Focused on both technical and soft skills, these workshops are tailored to empower IDM’s staff and students with practical, transferable knowledge. Training spans critical areas inside and outside the lab.
Through these initiatives, the Education Committee helps ensure that the IDM community remains engaged, skilled, and prepared to lead cutting-edge, responsible science on the global stage.
