Dr Sabelo Lukhele joined the Brooks lab as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow aiming to understand how the immune system responds
(or fails) to chronic diseases. His work focuses on the regulation of interferons in the control of persistent infections & cancer
and has already demonstrated a critical role of the transcription factor interferon regulatory factor 2 (IRF2) in controllng various cancer types.

Dr. Lukhele completed his Ph.D at McGill University under the direction of Dr. Éric Cohen at the Montreal Clinical Research Institute (IRCM). His Ph.D research focused on HIVpathogenesis, specifically elucidating the interactions between HIV and host proteins.Dr. Lukhele earned his Master of Science degree from the University of Toronto under the supervision of Julie Forma-Kay at the Hospital for Sick Children. He has an Honours Batchelor of Science degree from Trent University and an International Baccalaureate(IB) diploma from the Collegio del Mondo Unito dell'Adriatico (UWCAD) in Italy.

Outside of the lab, Sabelo enjoys (watching) sports – real football (aka Soccer),basketball and hockey…and visiting his mamaland – The Kingdom of Eswatini (formerlySwaziland).
