The IDM Accountability Working Group is dedicated to promoting awareness, inclusion, and equity by ensuring that diverse voices are heard and valued across all aspects of the Institute’s work. The group focusses on advancing social accountability within research — the principle that researchers and institutions must be responsive to the needs, values, and priorities of the societies they serve.

Our working definition of social accountability highlights the responsibility of the research community to not only generate scientific knowledge but to do so in ways that meaningfully address social challenges and promote equity. This includes a strong emphasis on engaged research — research that actively involves stakeholders across the entire research lifecycle, from agenda setting and design, through to implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.

Chaired by Mel Chengalroyen and co-chaired by Mandy Mason, membership to the Accountability Working Group is voluntary and open to all IDM-affiliated staff and students. To join or get involved in the working group, express your interest here
