IDM Directorate: Administration

The IDM Directorate: Administration plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of the Institute. This team is responsible for strategic coordination, research support, funding oversight, and the day-to-day administrative processes that underpin IDM’s research enterprise.

Core responsibilities include advancing the Institute’s research strategy, facilitating institutional coordination, and overseeing key operational systems. 

Communications and Events

The IDM Communications team, operating under the Research Visibility Office (RVO), leads all institutional communications efforts—ensuring consistency, visibility, and alignment with IDM’s mission and values.

Key functions include:

• Managing internal communications, such as newsletters, leadership updates, alerts, and announcements

• Coordinating external communications, including media engagement, web content, research highlights, and digital storytelling that promotes IDM’s scientific excellence

• Driving visibility campaigns and strategic branding, including support for sustainability initiatives such as the Sustainable Science Initiative, research grants, and partnerships

• Supporting the STEAM initiative, as well as various internal committees and stakeholder engagements

All events are designed to build community, promote strategic messaging, and reinforce IDM’s leadership within the health research landscape.

Research Ethics and Committee Support

The Directorate provides administrative support to IDM’s research ethics structures through the Program Coordinator (PC). The PC acts as a key intermediary between researchers and institutional ethics committees, ensuring regulatory compliance and efficient review cycles. This includes supporting the both the Human and Animal IRC.

Support for Strategic Initiatives

The RACO actively support value-added initiatives such as STEAM and contributes to several institutional programmes and committees. The PC supports the Education committee in the IDM Seminar Program. 

Venue Management

The RACO, in collaboration with the IDM Administrator, oversees eight IDM venues, including the Wolfson Pavilion Foyer and Lekgotla Meeting Rooms.

This includes:

• Managing bookings and logistics

• Ensuring accessibility and compliance with usage guidelines

• Supporting events through setup coordination and communications alignment

These shared spaces are critical for day-to-day operations, hosting meetings, workshops, and collaborations.
